ABOUT THE PRACTICE

A Criminal Defence Practice Built Around Domestic Violence

Core Defence Lawyers is a Sydney criminal defence practice with a dedicated focus on domestic violence matters. We combine former prosecutorial insight, methodical case preparation and a clear standard of advocacy to defend people accused across New South Wales.

WHO WE ARE

Defence Built on Method and Standards

Core Defence Lawyers acts for people accused of criminal offences across New South Wales, with a particular concentration in domestic violence charges, Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders, and the defence of false and exaggerated allegations.

Our practice is structured around a defined methodology rather than improvisation. The Core Defence DV Method, the Credibility Assessment Framework and the Evidence Evaluation Framework set out how we examine a brief, test the prosecution case, and build a defence. That structure is what allows us to be thorough, consistent and strategic under pressure.

We are also informed by experience on the other side of the bar table. Acting as a prosecutor for local and State Government gives our principal a direct understanding of how police build cases, where evidentiary weaknesses appear, and how prosecution decisions are made — insight we apply directly to the defence of our clients.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

The Principles That Guide Our Work

These commitments shape how we take instructions, prepare matters and appear in court.

Defence as a Discipline

We treat criminal defence as a craft built on preparation, procedure and forensic analysis — not theatrics. Every matter is approached methodically.

The Presumption of Innocence

At the centre of every case is a person entitled to be presumed innocent. We hold the prosecution to its burden of proof, in full, every time.

Straight, Realistic Advice

We give clients transparent, realistic advice about their position — not false comfort. Clear expectations produce better decisions.

Early Intervention

We believe in engaging with police and prosecutors early, often within 24 hours of a charge, to shape the matter before positions harden.

Our Standard

We have set out, in detail, the standard of defence we hold ourselves to — how we think about advocacy, authority and the obligations we owe the people we represent.
